DayZero is a visual novel following the story of eight individuals who find themselves waking up in a mysterious and seemingly abandoned underground facility, with little to no idea on why they are there or how to get out. The room they wake up in features one disturbing detail: a timer counting down from 48 hours. The story follows these eight characters as they explore the space that they find themselves in, interacting with each other and reacting in their own ways to the stress of their uncertain situation.

The version displayed here is a small demo/prototype of the game created for my senior thesis. It features four of the total characters, taking place a full day since they first woke up. There are two possible endings within this demo. This is my very first time creating anything like this what-so-ever, so any and all feedback is greatly appreciated!

I've also included a small PDF art book displaying some of the work behind the art, and stuff not included in the demo as well.




*The game is playable using just a mouse, although keyboard controls work as well.

After proceeding through each section of dialogue, you will enter an "explorable" section of the game. Hover and click the mouse to interact with your surroundings and prompt conversations between the characters. Some of these conversations will have different choices (one of which might affect the ending!). Once you have interacted with each section, the game will proceed into the next sequence.

You can right-click or hit the 'esc' key at any time to remove the dialogue box and view the art in full.
